The UK is well placed on the Earth to harness a huuuggeee amount of wind energy.
But despite the UK as a whole being in an advantage when it comes to getting wind, there are still differences around the country. Scotland is actually the windiest place in Europe, never mind the UK!
The map below shows how the strength of the wind changes as you go around the UK, with the more red being the windier areas, and blue bits on the mainland showing the less windy areas.
As you can see, there are places off the coast that would be in the perfect position for offshore wind farms and floating wind farms.

That’s not to say we can’t also harness more onshore wind too; in 2015, 7% of electricity generation came from onshore wind, and 5% from offshore.
